This is the only sport that brings people closer to each other due to their shared love for the sport. A few times back, there were two cricketers, one from England, Moeen Ali and the other from Australia, Meg Lanning. They have both been honoured for life with the membership of MCC. Marylebone Cricket Club is one of the prestigious cricket clubs, and today we are going to learn about its history. 

About Marylebone Cricket Club(MCC)

The club is founded in 1787, and it is Marylebone Cricket Club is one of the oldest and most influential cricket clubs in the world. This MCC is one of the most famous and oldest cricket clubs in the world. The club is located in the United Kingdom in London, and it is also the official custodian of the laws of cricket. This makes us understand that they made the rules in cricket, and everyone followed them.

The home ground of the Club is the Cricket Ground, which is located in London, and it is often mentioned as the “Home of Cricket”. This ground has hosted some of the most historic matches in cricket’s history, which cricket fans have remembered. 

The club is also the most important club for cricket lovers during the time period of 19th century. Their first ever ground was Regent’s Park, and now they have shifted to the other area, which we mentioned above.

In the year 1788, the club issued the first set of cricket laws, which have been followed across the globe till the 20th century. The club is also the governing body of cricket.

Understanding Of Honorary Life Membership 

The names of the cricketers who have won this membership are Moeen Ali from England and Meg Lanning from Australia. Both player have their history in cricket, which we mentioned in the part below of the blog. They have received recognition for their outstanding contribution to cricket. The announcement came as Lord’s prepared for its 2025 international fixtures and ahead of the World Test Championship final. In this honour, they both have received the lifetime membership of the club. This is a rare distinction that is only reserved for the legendary cricket players of all time in the whole world. 

Moeen Ali’s Cricket Journey

Moeen Ali is a very famous cricketer who has been part of the England team before retiring. He retired from all formats of cricket back in September 2024, which was last year. He also served as a vice-captain of the England Cricket team for a short period. Overall, he has played a total of 68 test matches with 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is for his team. In his entire career, he has scored 6,678 runs, and he has also taken 366 wickets overall. He has achieved to win two Ashes Series wins in the ODI World Cup of 2019 and the 2022 T20 World Cup. 

Meg Lanning: A True Cricket Star

Meg Lanning is a female Australian cricketer and she is known for her contribution to Australian Cricket. She has now retired from international cricket since November 2023. Meg is known as one of the successful captains in women’s cricket history from the Australian Cricket team. She has led Australia to seven world titles. One of them is the ODI World Cup, four T20 World Cups, and one of them is a Commonwealth Games gold. 

Along with international achievement, she has also achieved 17 international centuries and captained Australia in 182 of her 241 appearances and made a total of 8,352 runs. 

Conclusion 

Moeen Ali and Meg Lanning were awarded the Marylebone Cricket Club on 15 May 2025. They both have a very strong influence on cricket at the world level. But both of them have now retired from world cricket after giving outstanding performances for their team.
