Have you ever watched a cricket match and yelled at the television because someone took a catch you believed humanly couldn’t be done? Yup, I feel the same. The IPL 2025 has given fans some great moments – the catches, well they just deserve some love.
Let’s get stuck into the best ones so far, and perhaps relive the “HOW did he even do that?!” moments.
1. Ravindra Jadeja’s Spider-Man Moment (Again)
Is Jadeja even real? The man literally flew at backward point, horizontally and simultaneously caught a bullet shot out of nowhere. I swear the ball looked surprised. It made me think back to my best moment ever trying to dave my phone by dropping my plate; I ended both missions unsuccessfully. Jadeja? Doing his job and making the rest of us look bad; while also maintaining his pristine hair.
2. Glenn Maxwell’s Full-Body Dive
Big Show? More like Big Moment. Maxwell! He went full superhero mode at the rope on the boundary, diving like he was wearing springs up his backside. It was the type of moment that would have popcorn scattering into the sky, landing in your neighbour’s cup. He seemed more shocked than anyone else to be able to pull that off. That is the thing with these type of catches. Half the time, the players themselves are like, “Whoa, did I just do that?”
3. Rinku Singh’s One-Handed Catch
Rinku has that silent “don’t worry, I got this” attitude to him. And, this season he did not only get this, he nabbed it. A thick edge was flying away to wide, and he instinctively lifted his hand like he was hailing a taxi, and there we have it. Out. Total swag.
Ever tried to catch something mid-air while keeping a hold of a coffee cup? Yes, now you know, not easy.
4. Rahul Tripathi’s act of faith
This was purely Bollywood climax scene energy. Sailing ball, crowd roaring, Tripathi just full-throttled it and went leaping — arms flung out like Superman. Not only did he catch the ball, he slid across the grass like a child in a rain sodden field. Drama? Yes. Worth it? Definitely.
5. Tilak Varma’s back-pedaling madness
Let’s be honest — are there more difficult catches in cricket than those that involve running back and taking a catch? One misstep and you are flat on your back wondering where the sun went. But Tilak? He looked like he was completing some sort of a dance practice while taking one of the cleanest catches of our season. Grace, guts and good hands.
Catches like this are exactly why we continue to watch cricket matches. They are not mere plays — they are stories. We have little moments of brilliance that stay with us long after the match is done; like the time your mate caught a ball in a gully cricket match and treated the act like he had won the IPL. Exactly.
And let’s be real — we all want to be able to fall like that. Maybe in slow-mo. With some pumped-up music.
Which one gave you goosebumps? Which one made you say “NO WAY!” to your screen?
These breathtaking moments make IPL the entertainment we love. And the season isn’t over yet. More shed fire catches are definitely to come.
